The Toyota Prius was first introduced in Japan in late 1997 (Dec 10) and later in the US in August 2000. priced at $19,995, the Prius was launched as a 2001 model. The 2nd edition of the car was introduced in April, 2003 at the New York Auto Show. This new generation technology called the Hybrid Synergy Drive system promised better mileage, negligible emission and more power.

Features:

The all new Toyota Prius is a revolution in the hybrid car market. A vehicle is called a hybrid vehicle when it is powered using a combination of the conventional internal combustion and the electric engines. To put it simply the petrol engine in the vehicle charges a high performance battery which in turn powers the electric motor fitted inside.

Toyota brought the 2010 Prius model to the market in early spring 2009 and had an exceptionally long model year. The 2011 Prius Hybrids are now reaching the dealerships with Toyota having levied a modest price increase of $250 across the hybrid trim packages.

The 2011 Prius is actually a rerun of the 2010 Prius models. The all new Prius Hybrid retains the old over 50 mpg rating and novel options like solar power ventilation system. This is the third generation version of the most reliable hybrid make of the world at present.

The new Pirus hybrid is larger than the 2010 model, more powerful and more fuel efficient than the previous generation of the make. Prius remains the best selling hybrid in the global auto market by far. Prius II, III, IV and IV are the four hybrid models that are to come. All the four are powered by the 1.8 L 4 Cyl. Hybrid engine.

The car comes with elegant exterior features. To count a few prominent ones, projector-beam halogen headlamps with auto-off feature, Led tail lamps, integrated fog lamps, Hybrid Synergy Dirve blue accent badges, heated outside mirrors, intermittent rear window wiper, UV reduction glass windshield and roof mounted XM satellite radio antenna can be mentioned.

Interiors of Prius Hybrid are equally appealing. The car comes with CFC-free climate control with electric compressor, humidity sensor, dust and pollen filtration mode and air filter. Moreover there are AM/FM/MP3 CD player and six speakers are available inside. You can see the voice activated touch screen DVD navigation system, auxiliary audio jack, power automatic door locks with anti lockout feature, remote keyless entry system with panic function, 2stage unlocking and push button start, front passenger seatback pocket, dynamic radar cruise control and touch tracer display. There are many more features introduced here; but for that test drive is a must.

Prius has paid equal attention to the safety features in the hybrids models as well. To mention a few prominent ones of them we have Star Safety System which consists of enhanced vehicle stability control, anti lock braking system, brake assist. Moreover, Smart Stop Technology has been introduced to reduce the engine power automatically when you press both accelerator pedals and brake at the same time. In addition to this, standard features like driver and front passenger advanced airbag system, driver's knee airbag, driver and front passenger active headrests, side impact door beams, 3point seat belts in all seating positions etc. make Prius all the more special in the hybrids present in the market today.

The car is equipped with 1.8 liter Aluminum double overhead 4cyl 16 valve VVT-i engine with the displacement of 1798cc. Prius Hybrid can churn out the maximum power of 98 HP @ 5200 rpm and gives the maximum torque of 153 lb-ft. the car comes with electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. As regard the MSRP of the Toyota Prius Hybrid models, Prius II Hybrid comes for $22,800, Prius III for $23,800, Prius IV for $26,600 and Prius V $28,070.
