Toyota Prius

Toyota Prius 2004
The Toyota Prius was first introduced in Japan in late 1997 (Dec 10) and later in the US in August 2000. priced at $19,995, the Prius was launched as a 2001 model. The 2nd edition of the car was introduced in April, 2003 at the New York Auto Show. This new generation technology called the Hybrid Synergy Drive system promised better mileage, negligible emission and more power.

Working Of The System

  • Under light loads or when pulling away from a stop only the electric motor supplies powers to the vehicle.
  • In the usual driving conditions, the gasoline-engine generated power is divided between the wheels and the electric generator. The generator turns the electric motor to provide additional power to the wheels.
  • While sppeding, batteries supply power to the electric motor.
  • When brakes are applied, the electric motor rcharges the batteries. Thus, the batteries don't need to be plugged in for recharging. The gas-engine shuts down during this time saving fuel and reducing emissions.
  • The battery charge is constantly monitored. THe generator guides some power to charge them in case of need.
  • The car is supplied with 8 year, 100,000 mile warranty that covers the traction battery and a number of hybrid-specific components, and a five-year, 60,000 mile general powertrain warranty.
