Hybrids Get Exemption From Emissions Tests In Canada April 2005Hybrid vehicles -- powered by combinations of internal combustion engines and electric motors -- are now exempt from the requirement of getting an emissions test.Ontario Environment Minister Leona Dombrowsky says she hopes the exemption encourages people to consider buying a hybrid car. Dombrowsky notes that emissions testing equipment is not compatible with hybrid vehicles. The equipment requires the vehicles to idle during testing and that's something hybrids are not designed to do. Owners of hybrid vehicles that have already been tested will be contacted by the Drive Clean office and their test fees refunded. | ||
