Free Hotel Parking for Hybrid Cars May 2005The Fairmont San Jose Hotel is adding to its efforts of promoting environmental protection by offering free overnight parking to guests with hybrid vehicles, according to a hotel spokeswoman.The hotel has been involved in a Green Partnership Program since 1990 to reduce hazards to the environment. Hotel employees have recently replaced nearly 6,000 incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, recycled more than 1,700 outdated phone books and 23,000 pounds of cardboard, The spokeswoman said guests are normally charged a $22 fee for overnight parking. Hybrid cars, which operate on a combination of gasoline and electricity, are becoming increasingly popular in California. More than 25,000 hybrid cars were registered in the state during 2004, a 102 percent increase from the previous year. The cars can reduce smog by as much as 90 percent, according to the spokesman.
