Hyundai Unveils Hybrid Electric Car October 2004Korea's largest automaker unveiled its "Click" compact hybrid electric car yesterday at a ceremony for next generation automobile development. Over 16 months, Hyundai Motor Co. has invested 10.6 billion won ($9.2 million) in the development of the Click hybrid and has supplied 50 Clicks to the Ministry of the Environment. Hyundai Motor has been developing hybrid electric cars for exhibitions since 1995, but this is the first time it has made a vehicle for actual road use. The car is not, however, on sale to the public. Chung Mong-koo, chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, said at the ceremony that Hyundai would establish a research center in May to develop environmentally-friendly vehicles. Hyundai is planning to mass produce hybrid electric cars, which will go on sale from 2006. SOURCE: JoongAng Daily | ||
