Dodge Ram Hybrid

DaimlerChrysler began its production of the Dogge Ram Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) late in year 2004.

Features:

It has a deisel engine which shuts off when the car is at a sustained stop and restarts when the accelerator is pushed. When decelerating or when braking, the batteries are charged and so the car doesn't have to be plugged in to be recharged. This system is called the regenerative braking system.

The Dodge is the first hybrid pickup, built on a Cummins Turbo Diesel 5.9-liter engine with 600 lb-ft (813.4 Nm) of torque and provides a fuel economy of 15%.

The Ram HEV, like the GM Silverado hybrid, can operate as an electric generator, providing 110/220-volt AC power. The vehicle uses three spiral-wound sealed lead-acid batteries to serve as a 42-volt storage unit.

The dodge Ram is also available as the Dodge Ram 2500 COMBATT C-11 Hybrid based on the '02 Dodge Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Quad Cab 4x4 pickup, this model can be operated in either diesel-electric hybrid or electric-only ("stealth") modes that also provide a "Silent Watch" capability.

Sold commercially, beginning in 2004, this new vehicle is designed to meet the off-site electrical-generating-capacity needs of construction contractors, farmers, campers, and even homeowners.

The 5.9-liter, inline-6 Cummins 600 of the Hybrid Ram is the award-winning engine provided as an option in the 2004 model year conventional Ram. The conventional 2005 Ram offers the Cummins 610, a diesel with the same displacement and horsepower, but better emissions control and torque
